Hello everyone. I took a course called Introduction to Multimedia Systems over the spring and I have some questions about video and audio error correction during playback. I have a very cheap DVD player that I use to watch videos I have burned to DVD using my computer. For some time now whenever I burn a video to DVD and try to watch it on my TV using my cheap DVD player it will repeatedly throughout the video show corrupted images with corrupted audio at regular intervals. However, when I play the same DVDs I burned on my computer with Windows Media Player or HP's DVD player program it plays just fine. I can only assume, and I think we learned a little about this in that course I took over the spring, that error correction to the video and audio stream coming from the DVD drive is being applied to the video on the fly during playback on my computer, both at the driver level and by the video programs themselves. Am I correct? If so, could someone please elaborate some as to how this works? I do recall a couple of forward error detection and correction schemes taught to us in that class, but are there other error detection and correction schemes as well and what are the algorithms involved? If someone could go into some detail with their answer to my question I would be very grateful. Thanks in advance.
