Shrinking a part of the axis in MATLAB

Hi,

I want to present data on a two dimentional plot. The data points are really spread out about some X intervals, and really concentrated about other intervals.
Can I create a plot where there is a sudden "jumpe" in the X axis (at the interval where no data point exist)?
or can set different scales for different intervals of the same axis?
